Students Take Center Stage in Boston
Every year, we see students across Junior Achievement North dream up bold ideas. Whether they're creating products and services that solve real problems, learning about family budgeting, or taking the next step toward their future dreams, we are privileged to see creativity and confidence bloom.
What makes these moments even more powerful is when their ideas travel beyond our region and onto a national stage.
This spring, two student companies from Junior Achievement North did just that, earning the opportunity to compete in Boston, MA, at Future Bound™ by Junior Achievement, a national event that brings together top student groups from across the country.
From Local Innovation to National Competition
Future Bound is more than a competition; it’s a celebration of what young people can achieve when given the tools, mentorship, and space to lead. The national Junior Achievement Company of the Year Competition is a highlight. Here, students showcase the businesses they’ve spent the year building from the ground up.
Through Company Program, students don’t just learn about business—they run one. They identify a need, create a product or service, secure investment, and bring it to market, gaining hands-on experience at every step.
For KAIRO (Mounds View High School, Mounds View, MN) and Joe Flynn Photography (Highland Park High School, St. Paul, MN) from Junior Achievement North, that journey led them to Boston with the chance to represent their community among the best in the nation.
Big Ideas, National Stage
Each of our student companies arrived at Future Bound with a story of resilience, collaboration, and innovation.
They spent months refining their ideas, navigating challenges, and learning what it takes to operate a real business. Along the way, they built not only their companies—but also their confidence, leadership skills, and belief in what’s possible.
Thanks to polished presentations, confidence on the expo floor, and thoughtful responses during judging, both teams demonstrated the kind of professionalism and purpose that defines the Junior Achievement experience. They stood alongside peers from across the country and showed that the ideas coming out of our region belong on the national stage.
The Power Behind the Pitch
What makes these moments special isn’t just the competition; it’s what's behind the scenes in the moments it took to bring these ideas to life.
- It’s the student who discovers a passion for entrepreneurship for the first time
- It’s the team learning how to navigate disagreement and make decisions together
- It’s the realization that their ideas have value—and that people are listening
As Junior Achievement USA CEO Jack Harris shared, the Company Program gives students a “one-of-a-kind opportunity” to develop critical business skills, spark creativity, and experience the realities of running a business.
Future Bound is where all of that effort comes together.
A Moment That Stays With You
For the students who attended, the whole experience is valuable, not just the competition.
They engage in conversations with peers from across the country, get expert feedback from judges and business leaders, and have the chance to see what’s possible when big ideas meet hard work.
And perhaps most importantly, it’s the realization that they’re capable of more than they imagined.
As Sara Dziuk, President & CEO of Junior Achievement North, reflected on the experience, she noted that moments like these highlight not just the strength of each individual team, but the collective power of students who are stepping forward as innovators, leaders, and problem solvers.
Looking Ahead
We’re incredibly proud of the two student companies who represented Junior Achievement North at Future Bound, including Joe Flynn Photography, which took 2nd place in the National Company of the Year Competition, a massive feat!
Their work reflects the very best of what happens when young people are given the opportunity to lead, create, and take risks in a supportive environment.
And while the competition may be over, their journey is just beginning.
Because the skills they’ve built—confidence, adaptability, teamwork, and entrepreneurial thinking—will carry with them far beyond the classroom, far beyond one event, and into whatever comes next.
