Volunteer – JA BizTown

BT teacher photoJA BizTown is a 12,000 square foot simulated city located at JA’s St. Paul headquarters. During their visit to this interactive free market facility, students learn what it takes to run a successful business, manage a checking account and work as a team. Each year, approximately 34,000 students will become business owners, consumers and community citizens at JA BizTown.

Volunteer Role
A group of 15 to 20 volunteers help students navigate JA BizTown at each on-site simulation. Volunteers work with a small group of students to help them manage their assigned JA BizTown shop. Volunteers also advise students in making important business and personal finance decisions.

Time Commitment
Each volunteer event is from approximately 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Volunteer Training
JA provides all the training and materials you’ll need to be prepared, including online training videos that demonstrate a typical day at JA BizTown and the role of the volunteer. The first hour of each volunteer event is spent reviewing the daily schedule and specific volunteer assignments.

Students are in 4th through 6th grades. On a typical day, 70 to 120 students will experience JA BizTown. They will arrive approximately one hour after volunteers arrive.
